Great Texas Getaways

With all of us being quarantined right now, we can’t help but think about taking a vacation.

My family enjoys waterfront properties, away from the hustle and bustle of life.

I decided to share my Texas waterfront gems my family have enjoyed over the years, full of tranquility and relaxation.

Bacliff, TX

This was an amazing vacation rental. I really had no complaints. There was so much there for my family to enjoy, such as pool table, swimming pool, fishing dock, arcade, outdoor tv and outdoor grilling. It was absolutley amazing! Only draw backs, if you are looking to swim in the ocean, it is a bay house so it’s not for swimming. The fishing was perfect though and they included fishing equipment. Also if you do have a child in a wheelchair there is little steps throughout the house, which is manageable. I highly suggest this property and suggest you take in all the sights of this amazing house.

Lake Livingston Cottage

This small cottage was so quaint and relaxing. Right on the water of Lake Livingston, I mean you walk off the deck and there is a beach area. The kids enjoyed swimming and playing in the beach area and I enjoyed the hammock. There is great fishing and they included a pedal boat with the rental. It is not handicapped accessible, there is an upper level where the beds are but we carried our daughter up the stairs. If you are looking for a waterfront oasis, this place is perfect.

Bolivar Peninsula

If you want something beach front, look no further. This property is beach front, with a great beach perfect for finding seashells. We went during spring break one year and it was cloudy and a bit chilly but we loved every minute of this property, we even rented an extra night. The beds were unbelievably comfortable and you could hear the waves crashing to the shore from the bedroom, with the window open. It was so relaxing and the kids loved searching the beach for seashells.

Glamping on Lake Conroe

If you want camp life without really camping, this place is perfect. You can rent a RV right by the water of Lake Conroe. There is 2 RVs you can choose from. One is beyond fancy and the other is great as well but not as extremely fancy as the other. They included kayaks and life jackets. We had a great time kayaking, making s’mores and floating in the lake. Plus there is some good fishing there as well.

Birthdays During Quarantine

Birthdays are so special for our little ones and special for us parents, to throw that magical birthday party that they will remember a lifetime.

My son’s birthday is coming up and I was feeling sad that we most likely will still be quarantined when his birthday gets here. It saddens me that we will not be able to party with our friends and family with a big birthday bash, but there are still ways to make sure your child has an amazing birthday.

Here are some ideas to make this birthday a birthday to remember.

Love your Body

It has occurred to me that I have lost sight of why I started this blog, to try to open the eyes of the world that big women are beautiful! Also, for big women to see their true beauty while I also learn to love my body the way it is.

I still love blogging about being a mom and family life, but I want to focus back on my mission, for people to accept plus size people.

I have a lot to say on this topic so I may be a bit scattered brained, but bare with me.

I can honestly say that I love being a plus size woman. Am I happy with my body 100% of the time…no. I would love to lose about 50 pounds and get in better shape so that I can take better care of my my disabled daughter. Will I ever be skinny?? No. Nor do I care about being skinny. Not that there is anything wrong with being skinny, I was just not meant to be a smaller woman.

I have always been on the chunky side, since I was a child. I was a very active kid , I played sports and took dance. I ate what every other kid was eating, but I gained weight more than the other kids.

IMG_20200415_0001

When I was in 5th grade, kids at school really started making fun of my weight. I was then aware that I was different, and of coarse different always has to be bad, right?? So, I started countless diets, battled depression, and even hated going to school.

As a child, I should not have had to deal with body image issues, no child should!

God made us all different, we are not meant to all be the same size and weight.

People are having weight loss surgeries and going on extreme diets, so that they can fit in with society. Now, I know some people have to lose weight because of health problems, do skinny people not have the same health problems??

My mom had gastric bypass years ago because her Doctor said losing the weight would make all her health problems disappear, my words, but same meaning. She lost the weight, but still has heart problems and high blood pressure.

I am done trying to fit in with society, yes I want to be healthy and I CAN be healthy and plus size. I am meant to have curves and junk in my trunk and I am gonna own it!

This message is not just for plus size women. Society puts an unrealistic standard on what a woman should look like. Some of you may have body image issues and not be overweight.

This is for all of you woman reading this. Love your bodies the way they are meant to be, own and flaunt it! Show the World we come in all shapes and sizes and ALL sizes are beautiful!

What I have learned during COVID 19

The past few weeks have been stressful, to say the least. School is closed, shelter in place has taken place, it is hard finding groceries and everyone is scared and panicked.

My family’s routine is completely out of whack and there is no structure to our days at home. I spend most days just cleaning the house since we are here making messes all day. I was really finding it hard to see any bright side to this situation until I sat back and looked at the situation from another point of view.

Through the midst of all the stress and uncertainty, I have learned things I may have never know otherwise.

* My kids just want attention

As I was going over my to-do list for the next day, I noticed my son asked my husband about cars. He was curious about how his dad knew so much about cars. My husband then told him he learned by working on them. So for the past week my husband and son have been working on his truck, because it broke down right before shelter in place, and I absolutely love seeing them bond together. My son gets so excited when he learns something new and I can tell it brings my husband joy as well. In the past, my husband would be too tired from working all day and the weekends would always be too busy. Now they have time to spend time together, hopefully, after all this is over with they will still take that time to bond over working on stuff.

I think we get so caught up in life we assume they would rather be playing on their devices, but in reality, they just need a little attention.

There are still nice people out there

Over the past month, I have seen so many people going out of their way to do nice things for others. There are some people placing blessing boxes on their doorstep with essential items for people to pick up. There are others who are doing grocery shopping for the elderly or families with a special needs child. I have seen some delivering meals to special needs families doorstep.

With all this craziness right now, I am glad there is still good in this World. I only wish I was doing more to do my part.

There will always be something to clean

Being in the house for weeks has taught me that I could clean 24 hours a day and there will always be more to clean. I feel like I have wasted time with my family by just focusing on the house. So I have learned that I need to stop worrying about the house being spotless, I mean really who is going to see it, and spend more time with my family.

I miss social interaction

Before this epidemic, I had become a bit of an introvert. I was ordering my groceries online and picking up from my car, I was using Amazon for a lot of my shopping and I spent most weekends at home. Now that is all I CAN do! I miss talking to people, I miss nights out, I miss sitting at a restaurant.

It is funny how a horrible situation can make you change your mind about the way you were living life.

So while this is a horrible experience for all of us, there is good to come from it. Enjoy family time, show people you care, stop obsessing over the small stuff and remember to enjoy life more when this is all over with.

My prayers are with all the families suffering from a loss right now and all who are sick, my heart goes out to you.
